Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “We have witnessed a de-growth in the month of June 2013 amidst an overall decline in the auto industry. The depreciating rupee resulting in spiraling fuel costs coupled with high interest rates and the additional excise duty on SUVs has further dampened the industry without any substantial revenue to Government. Going forward, we do hope that some immediate short term measures are announced and implemented by the Government to bring back buoyancy in demand which is the need of the hour”.
Mahindra re-launched the XUV 500 with a stone guard to lower the ride height of the SUV, this has shaved off at least Rs 17,000 off the price. If Mahindra goes ahead and implements the same measure in all its SUVs, we could see a rise in sales figures in July 2013. We’ll have to wait and watch.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is still the market leader in terms of sales, but it continues to see a slump in sales this year. Monthly sales in June 2013 saw a drop of about 1% as compared to May 2013, while year-on-year sales fell by about 7%.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is back on top of the Indian car sales chart with 20077 units, followed by the Maruti Suzuki Swift (17236 units) and the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire (12548).

Mercedes-Benz

Nissan

Nissan Motor India Private Limited had mixed results in June 2013, monthly sales increased by about 42% while year-on-year figures for the month decreased by more than 29%.

  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 2954 units. Monthly sales for June 2012 – 4167 units. Change – Decline of 29.10%

Nissan is improving it’s position, at least if we compare the April-June period comparison, the difference was 49% last month. It has a long way to go though, it still lags behind its partner Renault by more than 3000 units. The facelifted Micra has helped boost sales, as they hoped, but the Sunny and Evalia are losing big. They are also hoping the the much hyped about Terrano SUV will help the sales figures to rise when it is launched later in 2013.

Renault

Renault India Private Limited continued to have a mixed time, the trend continuing from May 2013 to June 2013. Monthly sales declined 0.22% while the year-on-year sales figures showed an increase by 1207%, yes you read that correctly.
  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 6007 units. Monthly sales for May 2013 – 6300 units. Change – Decline of 4.65%
  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 6007 units. Monthly sales for June 2012 – 787 units. Change – Growth of 663.27%
  • April – June 2013 sales - 18621 units. April – June 2012 sales - 1884 units. Change – Growth of 888.37%
Though they saw a slump in sales in June 2013 as compared to May 2013, Renault is upbeat about the huge difference in the year-to-year sales figures. “The Renault brand is continuing to see increasing visibility and acceptability among Indian customers, despite a challenging market,” said Sumit Sawhney, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Renault India Pvt. Ltd. “With the reliability and performance of Renault’s products, the widespread reach of our dealer network as well as the growing customer recognition of our brand, we are confident of continued growth in the near term.”
Of the 6007 units that Renault sold in India in June 2013, the Duster accounted for 4523 units down from the 5146 units sold in May 2013. The Scala saw an increase in sales, 722 units were sold as compared to 670 units in May 2013. The Pulse saw an increase of 87 units as compared to May 2013, 497 units of it were sold. 215 units of the Fluence were sold in June 2013 as compared to 71 units in May 2013. No units of the Koleos were sold in June 2013.

Škoda

Škoda Auto India Private Limited is experiencing a steady decline in sales this year, June 2013 was no different. We are just hoping they speed up the testing of the 2013 Skoda Octavia and the 2014 Skoda Superb in India. Monthly sales , declining slightly by 0.93% while the year-on-year sales figures also showed a decline of 32%.
  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 1579 units. Monthly sales for May 2013 – 1916 units. Change – Decline of 17.58%
  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 1579 units. Monthly sales for June 2012 – 4923 units. Change - Decline of 67.92%
  • April – June 2013 sales - 5429 units. April – June 2012 sales - 10860 units. Change - Decline of 50%

Tata Motors

Tata Motors Limited had a mixed month in June 2013, monthly sales were up by about 6% while year-on-year sales fell by about 31%.
  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 11804 units. Monthly sales for May 2013 – 11134 units. Change – Growth 6.01%
  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 11804 units. Monthly sales for June 2012 – 17244 units. Change – Decline 31.54%

Tata Motors went on a reveal spree late June 2013revealing the new Nano, Indigo eCS, Safari Stomre, Sumo and the Indica eV2. It also announced the ‘Horzonext’ program by which it will increase the standard of its operations in India.
Tata did not release any domestic sales data of the Jaguar – Land Rover brand for this month.

Toyota

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited continued to show progress in June 2013, in terms of sales, even though the general car market is still slow. But the picture is not so rosy when we compare the year-on-year sales figures, monthly sales grew by about 9% while the year-on-year sales fell by about 25%.

  • Monthly sales for June 2013 – 11010 units. Monthly sales for June 2012 – 14700 units. Change – Decline 25.1%
  • April – June 2013 sales - 30040 units. April – June 2012 sales - 44579 units. Change – Decline 32.61%
Commenting on the sales in June 2013, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Marketing and Commercial said “The overall weak economic conditions continue to keep the market sentiments low and the market sluggish. We have seen an increase in sales when compared to last month. We have been able to keep the inventory levels low, both at TKM and dealer’s end. We hope to see the market improve after the monsoon and during the festive season.”
Toyota revealed the 2014 Toyota Corolla internationally in June 2013, the European version of the car is expected to be launched in India by 2014. Meanwhile, Toyota has been testing the Camry Hybrid in India, it is evaluating launching it in India as soon the government’s proposed National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP 2020) is introduced.

Volkwagen

Volkswagen India Private Limited had a mixed result in June 2013, monthly sales increased by about 4% while year-on-year sale was negligible.

Volkswagen has a good month thanks to its bread and butter cars the Polo and Vento. This month, the company plans to get more sells out of them by introducing some finance offers on the Vento and the Polo. The Volkswagen CrossPolo is on its way, and it would be interesting to see how it does in the market.

Ashok Leyland Stile MPV Revealed

Ashok Leyland has revealed the Nissan Evalia based Stile MPV on 16th July at Chennai. The vehicle was unveiled by Mr. Carlos Ghosn, CEO and Chariman, Nissan Motor Co. and Mr G.P. Hinduja, Chairmna, Hinduja Group. The MPV has only been revealed, the official launch will happen sometime around the festive season in September. The Stile will be manufactured at Nissan’s assembly plant in Chennai.
The Stile is a 7/8 seater MPV which will targeted for various applications apart from personal mobility, including taxi services, ambulances, courier services etc. It will be available with Diesel and CNG fuel options when launched later this year.

Askok Leyland Stile Exterior

Though the basic shape of the car is no different than the Nissan Evalia, the Stile does look different thanks to new headlights, the grille and front bumpers. The rest of the car is the same as the Evalia though.

The Ashok Leyland Stile, a rebadged and slightly restyled version of the Nissan Evalia will be launched on the 16th of July 2013

We recently brought to you the news of Ashok Leyland launching the Stile MPV later this year which will be its first offering for the passenger vehicle segment and the same has been caught testing in India. The Askhok Leyland Stile MPV is a rebadged and a slightly restyled Nissan Evalia and the car comes courtesy of the joint venture between Ashok Leyland and Nissan which will also result in the birth of new LCVs in future.

The car is being tested through out the country and it has been caught testing in Chennai by the good folks back at Indian Autos Blog and the car is being tested with a slight camouflage up front. The car gets a resytled front fascia as compared to the Nissan Evalia and the car was showcased at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. It will be slotted below the Nissan Evalia with the main target being the cab operators and BPOs.

The Nissan Evalia has been somewhat of a dud seller in India and the car has never really managed to get the sales going. The Stile will get single tone grey or black interiors instead of the dual tone interiors found on the Evalia and the car’s tail lamps would get slighlty tweaked as well when compared to the Evalia. The Stile would look bog similar to the Evalia from the side profile.

The Stile will be powered by the same 85BHP-200NM engine found on the Sunny, Scala, Duster and Evalia. The engine has already proven itself in the Indian market and needs no introduction. The car will be aimed at urban buyers too and the ones looking for a good family car might go in for it too because the car offers a lot of space as well. This is the first passenger vehicle from Ashok Leyland and with the right pricing, it might just strike a chord with the Indian buyers.

One of the main highlights of the recently redesigned 2014 Toyota Highlander is its more serious and slightly tougher looks, (mostly) courtesy of the new front end. Well, prepare yourself for a more…lighthearted version of the mid-size crossover as the Japanese carmaker has joined forces with Nickelodeon and the world's most famous fictional sea creature, Mr. SpongeBob Squarepants to create a new concept model. The SpongeBob-inspired 2014 Highlander concept will bow to the world, or rather, in front of a sports crowd, this Saturday, July 13, at the San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres baseball game. More specifically, the one-of-a-kind Highlander will be revealed on the field during the pre-game festivities at the “Park at the Park” location within the stadium.
While SpongeBob will be available for photo shoots, there's no word if his BFF Patrick Star will make an appearance too.
And before you…rip your pants (that's a SpongeBob reference for the uninitiated) let us tell you that you should hold us responsible for the pictures of the SpongeBob-themed Highlander seen here, as we made them with the help of Nickelodeon's program, since the actual concept is currently hiding under a big rock.
